What is an Adjustment of Status

An Adjustment of Status is the process of getting your green card, or lawful permanent immigrant status (LPR), when you are already within the United States. There are many cases in which you could apply for an adjustment of status and a key step is finding the category that you fit in, that would allow you to apply.

With help to see if you can apply for an adjustment of status, contact Molina Law Group today.

The Importance of Being Eligible for an Adjustment of Status

The reason it’s important to be eligible for an adjustment of status is that it can protect the immigrant from being deported. What happens when an immigrant is deported, is that they have to go through consular processing, interviews, and a potential five to 10-year ban on re-entry to the United States. When a status is adjusted for one of the many reasons the law allows, the immigrant can stay within the United States to become a lawful permanent resident.
